JESSICA HALLENBECK producer, co-director, editor
Jessica Hallenbeck is a professionally trained filmmaker and community planner with over 15 years of experience in documentary video production, participatory video facilitation, and educational video creation. Jessica holds a BA in film from Queen’s University, an MA in Community Planning from the University of British Columbia (UBC), and is currently a PhD candidate in the Department of Geography at UBC. She serves on the board of DOC BC and DOC National. Jessica is the co-founder of Lantern Films.
DAVE SHORTT creative director, co-director, cinematographer
Dave Shortt has over 12 years of experience as a Creative Director. He has a long history of collaborating with a wide range of companies and organizations, from Fortune 500s to startups and not-for-profits. Dave has a BA in Communications and Film Studies from Queen’s University and is the founder of fix8 Media (2002) and Shortt and Epic Productions (2011). Dave's work and creativity has won him many awards, including the Gerry Brunet Award for Best BC Short Film, Under the Rainbow. Dave is the co-founder of Lantern Films.
LYANA PATRICK facilitator, content director
Lyana Patrick is a member of the Stellat’en First Nation (Carrier Nation) on her father’s side and Acadian/Scottish on her mother’s side. She has worked in communications and education for 17 years, including as a journalist, communications officer, and documentary filmmaker. She holds an MA in Indigenous Governance from the University of Victoria and a PhD from the University of British Columbia. Lyana works with Lantern Films as a facilitator and content director.
KELSEY SPARROW animator, editor
Kelsey Sparrow (xʷməθkwəy̓əm) is an emerging mixed media artist. With a background in filmmaking, drummaking, and paper art, Kelsey brings an incredible attention to detail to her artistic work. Kelsey is currently a Fine Arts student at Langara College. Kelsey works with Lantern Films as an animator and mixed media artist.
ROSEMARY GEORGESON story gatherer, director
Rosemary Georgeson is a Sahtu Dene and Coast Salish artist, writer, and storyteller. Rosemary has applied her talents in dozens of theater, film, and performance projects and is the recipient of the 2009 Vancouver Mayor’s Award and the 2014 storyteller in residence for the Vancouver Public Library. Rosemary works with Lantern Films as a story gatherer, facilitator, and protocol advisor.
MITCHELL MCCOOK co-director, content advisor
Mitchell McCook is Dakelh (Carrier) and Tsek'ene. Mitchell has a BA in Commerce from the University of Northern British Columbia. He has worked as an art gallery manager and health administrator. Mitchell currently works for the Kwadacha Nation at their Prince George Band Office. He works with Lantern Films as a co-director, facilitator, and content advisor.
DAVID OZIER story editor
David Ozier is a Gemini Award-winning writer and director. He has contributed to over 250 episodes of programmingfor the CBC, The National Film Board of Canada, ABC, National Geographic, History, Discovery, HGTV, the Food Network, Oxygen, PBS and others. David works with lantern Films as a story editor.
DAN BRITTAIN composer, animator
Dan Brittain is a senior compositor currently working with Industrial Light and Magic. His credits include Star Wars: The Force Awakens (2015), The Maze Runner (2014) and Dark Shadows (2012). Dan is also a composer and musician with Heavy Days and Ape War. Dan works at Lantern Films as a composer and animator.
JAMES LAUDER illustrator
James is a UK born, Vancouver raised graphic designer, art director, illustrator, and tattoo artist. The core of all of his work is communicating ideas. Whether it’s a fundraising campaign or piece of branded content, his goal is to bring clarity to each idea through thoughtful communication and purposeful design.
